Hydrogen Sulfide in the Oil & Gas Industry

Hydrogen sulfide is a common hazard in the oil & gas industry in just about every play in some fashion or another regardless of the segment of the industry – upstream, midstream, and downstream. There are methods and equipment available to make the environment less hazardous and reduce the risks associated with hydrogen sulfide. Specific work practices can be instituted, as well, to reduce the risks.


The webinar will review the common methods, equipment, and safe work practices that will assist, if instituted, in decreasing the hazards associated with hydrogen sulfide. It will address updated voluntary training standards for workers working in environments with hydrogen sulfide present or potentially present.

Wayne Vanderhoof, CSP, is a Senior Health & Safety Consultant for RETTEW, an engineering, environment, and safety consulting practice with more than 450 people based in Lancaster, PA. He manages the western Pennsylvania, Ohio, and West Virginia area for RETTEW in the Safety Consulting Group. RETTEW provides services to industries including oil & gas, manufacturing, construction, and municipalities.

Mr. Vanderhoof has more than 25 years of safety experience in worker safety and health in engineering companies, manufacturing companies, and the oil & gas companies.
