No one knows the hazards and dangers of utility line work better than the workers themselves. They work behind the scenes every day in tough conditions to ensure we all have reliable and uninterrupted power to go about our daily lives. Given that they manage these risks as second nature every day, it’s easy to miss the level of knowledge and effort required to maintain these systems in the face of serious hazards. In fact, OSHA estimates 74 fatalities and 444 serious injuries occur annually for those workers involved in electrical utility work. Utility line work is commonly quoted as one of the ten most dangerous jobs in the U.S. Unexpected exposure to an arc flash event can cause serious burn injuries resulting in death. While these events may not be commonplace, the potential injuries can be very serious and life altering.

Join us as we take a closer look at the arc flash event and how exposure can cause serious injuries. We will explore current standards and ways to mitigate the potential injury through the proper use and care of arc rated PPE. As well as discuss some important characteristics of PPE (comfort, durability, etc.) that are important to consider when choosing the best PPE for your specific application
