Hazardous materials are used globally, and we have very culturally dynamic workforces. Varying chemical and pesticide hazard ratings between companies and industries can lead to confusion and incidents. In an effort to standardize our processes to prevent miscommunications and confusion, OSHA is integrating the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) into the existing HAZCOM 1920.1200 standard (HCS).

Varying hazard ratings and regulatory requirements for ‘chemicals, pesticide and other stuff’ that exists between industries, countries and regulating agencies (OSHA, EPA, DOT, CPSC, etc.) can lead to confusion and incidents. This presentation will provide discussions and resources to simplify and clarify the similarities and differences between these entities’ requirements (GHS/HCS, WPS/FIFRA, FHSA, etc.).
