Louisiana Chemical Manufacturer Cited for Nine Serious Violations
Employees were exposed corrosive materials and a leaking hot water tank.
OSHA has issued PPG Industries nine serious violations, as well as two others after an investigation found employees were exposed to corrosive materials and a leaking hot water tank.
OSHA also cited the chemical manufacturer for failing to inspect lockout/tagout procedures, not inspecting safety relief valves, allowing the use of deteriorated stair rails, and lacking a hazard assessment.
"The violations found at PPG Industries' Westlake facility are disturbing. Not inspecting safety relief valves endangers workers and could have catastrophic consequences," said Dorinda Folse, OSHA's area director in Baton Rouge. "This employer must take all necessary steps to correct these issues and take the safety of its workers seriously."
