VA Medical Center Exposes Workers to an Unsafe Workplace: OSHA

OSHA has issued a notice to Hunter Holmes Mcguire VA Medical Center.

After identifying four willful, two serious, and eight other-than-serious safety violations, OSHA has issued notices to the Hunter Holmes McGuire Veterans Affair Medical Center in Richmond, Va., the agency announced.

The medical center exposed employees to workplace violence and physical assault, resulting in willful violations. Willful violations were also issued for failing to train employees on the prevention and management of workplace violence, and failing to properly record workplace injuries and illnesses.

Serious violations were for supervisors and employees not being trained on recordkeeping.

According to the press release, the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center has been inspected six times since 1992. Four of those inspections resulted in notices, including in 2009, when the facility received notices for recordkeeping deficiencies.
