The Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO) recently announced it will be holding its annual meeting, entitled "Pursuing Excellence in Public Health," in St. Louis, Missouri, from Oct. 2-5, 2007, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.
Included at the meeting is a session on preparing for pandemic flu, in addition to speeches by CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding and Secretary of Health and Human Services Michael Leavitt.

Also in October, the second-annual "End-to-End Preparedness for Pandemic Influenza Conference" will take place in Washington D.C., from Oct. 29-31
The event has quickly become a major gathering place of representatives from the nation's public health authorities, the biopharmaceutical industry, contract manufacturing organizations, distribution firms and the first responder community come together explore the opportunities for public-private collaboration.
This year's theme is “Extending the Enterprise” and the conference's goal is to search for ways to effectively extend the preparedness enterprise to include new types of partnerships between industry and government. This theme will be explored as participants discuss the opportunities for the private sector to participate in creating a cohesive, end-to-end preparedness framework that will ensure that vaccines and therapeutics are ready and available to protect the public.
