New York's Fire Department Getting New Training Units
DeWitt Stern Group Inc. and Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. have given a $50,000 grant to FDNY to fund the purchase of new fire behavior units for training. The units will be create real "live" fire training exercises at the department's Training Academy on Randall's Island -- scenarios that depict conditions not normally encountered on a day-to-day basis.
Instructors will be able to educate firefighters about the science of fire, the department said.
The grant package is part of a program funded by Fireman’s Fund that provides equipment, training, and education to fire departments nationwide. Chief of Department Salvatore Cassano joined representatives from DeWitt Stern Group and Fireman's Fund for the presentation May 6 at the training academy.
