Lung Health Groups Mark World Asthma Day 2007
Today is World Asthma Day, an event marked around the world and organized by the Global Initiative for Asthma in cooperation with health care groups and asthma educators. They want to raise awareness of asthma and improve asthma care worldwide.
The American Association for Respiratory Care, the American Lung Association, and allied groups are taking part. GINA chooses a theme each year and distributes materials and resources. This year's theme is "You Can Control Your Asthma!" Last year's, "The Unmet Needs of Asthma," showed how unmet needs diminish the control of asthma.
The inaugural World Asthma Day took place in 1998 and was celebrated in more than 35 countries.
