Chief Financial Officer of the U.S. Secret Service to Speak at VPPPA Safety+ Symposium

Gwendolyn Sykes will talk at the Closing General Session on August 25.

VPPPA will host its Safety+ Symposium this week in Washington D.C. from August 23 to 25. On the last day, the Chief Financial Officer of the U.S. Secret Service Gwendolyn Sykes will speak at the Closing General Session.

Sykes has over 10 years of experience working with the secret service. As the CFO, Sykes handles the “execution, development and stewardship of the Secret Service’s resources,” according to VPPPA, and leads the financial team. Before working for the Secret Service, Sykes was “nominated by the President of the United States” to serve as the CFO for NASA, the first American American female in this role, VPPPA said.

During the session on Thursday, August 25 from 3:45 to 4:30 p.m., Sykes will talk about “leadership and cultural realignment in the face of crisis.” She will discuss what it was like to work at the Pentagon when 9/11 occurred, “at NASA during the space shuttle Columbia disaster” in 2003 and for the secret service, according to VPPPA.
