Biden Selects Nominees for Administration’s Health Team

Choices for Biden’s health team slots include Dr. Vivek Murphy, who served as surgeon general under President Obama.

Joe Biden announced the nominees for his administration’s health team on December 7, reports NPR.

Xavier Becerra, California’s current attorney general, will be nominated for health and human services secretary. Dr. Rochelle Walensky will be the nominee for director of the CDC. Dr. Walensky is currently the chief of infectious diseases at Massachusetts General Hospital.

Other nominations include Dr. Vivek Murthy for the position of surgeon general and Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith as leader of a new COVID-19 task force. Dr. Murphy previously held this position under the Obama administration.

Dr. Anthony Fauci will remain director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases while also serving as the chief medical advisor on coronavirus.
