NYC Elevator Compliance Filings Moving Online

Beginning Sept. 17, all new inspection and test reports for elevators and related devices conducted in New York City must be submitted through the DOB NOW: Safety online portal.

The New York City Department of Buildings is reminding stakeholders that, starting Sept. 17, 2018, all new inspection and test reports for elevators and related devices conducted in New York City must be submitted through its DOB NOW: Safety online portal.

There are more than 160,000 inspections and tests conducted annually, according to the department.

Friday, Aug. 31, was the last day the department accepted in-person paper filings ahead of the shift to online filing, and mailed paper filings had to be postmarked no later than Aug. 28. No filings were being accepted at all between Sept. 1 and Sept. 16.

Late filings are subject to civil penalties and late fees. DOB staffers have been providing training on how to file electronically, with sessions offered on Sept. 10, Sept. 12, Sept. 18, and Sept. 16.
