NETS Releases Cost of Collisions Calculator App for Employers

Employers can use the app, which NETS developed through a cooperative agreement with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, to measure their company's cost of crashes.

The Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) has released a new Cost of Collisions Calculator for employers that is available on its website. Employers can use the app, which NETS developed through a cooperative agreement with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, to measure their companies' cost of crashes. NETS' Cost of Motor Crashes to Employers report estimates the annual cost of crashes to employers at $47.4 billion.

According to NHTSA, 37,461 lives were lost on U.S. roads in 2016. Whether someone is in an accident when driving on the job or off-duty, it still affects their employer. Employers are in a unique position to influence the driving habits of their employees and potentially save lives.

Implementing proactive safety initiatives such as defensive driver training and establishing comprehensive policies surrounding distractions, seat belts, and fatigue are just a few actions employers can take to reduce employee risk behind the wheel. Data from the Cost of Collisions Calculator can help businesses make the case to support investment in employee-wide safe driving programs as well as evaluate their overall road safety efforts.
