Tennessee DOT Adds Name to Memorial Monument
The ceremony at the Smith County Welcome Center on I-40 in Carthage, Tenn., included the unveiling of J.R. Rogers' name on the TDOT monument. Rogers, a HELP truck operator in Nashville, died in December 2016 after being struck by a vehicle on I-40.
Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam joined Tennessee Department of Transportation Commissioner John Schroer and family members of fallen workers at an April 5 ceremony to honor three TDOT workers who died in the line of duty during 2016. All three were struck by passing motorists.
The ceremony took place at the Smith County Welcome Center on I-40 between Nashville and Knoxville, at mile marker 267 in Carthage, Tenn., starting at 10:30 a.m. CDT.
They unveiled J.R. Rogers' name on the TDOT memorial monument at the welcome center. Rogers, a HELP truck operator in Nashville, died in December 2016 after being struck by a vehicle on I-40.
TDOT officials also announced a new public awareness and safety campaign, "Work With Us," aimed at saving lives.
