Commerce Secretary Announces Four Baldrige Winners

George Benton, who chairs The Foundation for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, announced at the ceremony the official launch of the new Baldrige Cybersecurity Excellence Builder.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross presented the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation's only presidential award for performance excellence and innovation, to four U.S. companies on April 2, saying that "this public-private partnership generates $1 billion per year in economic impact."

The four winners are Don Chalmers Ford, Rio Rancho, N.M. (small business); Momentum Group, Irvine, Calif. (small business); Kindred Nursing and Rehabilitation Center -- Mountain Valley, Kellogg, Idaho (health care); and Memorial Hermann Sugar Land Hospital, Sugar Land, Texas (health care).

"This year's recipients each exemplify the very best this country has to offer," Ross added during the recognition ceremony.

George Benton, who chairs The Foundation for the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, announced at the ceremony the official launch of the new Baldrige Cybersecurity Excellence Builder -- a 32-page guide that is a voluntary self-assessment tool organizations can use to better understand how to manage cybersecurity risks so they can continually improve and measure the effectiveness of their cybersecurity efforts.

Named after Malcolm Baldrige, the 26th secretary of Commerce, the Baldrige Award was established by Congress in 1987 to enhance the competitiveness and performance of U.S. businesses. Eligibility for the award was expanded in 1998 to include education and health care and again in 2007 to include nonprofit organizations. To date, a total of 113 Baldrige Awards have been presented to 106 organizations, including seven repeat recipients.
