U.S. Driving Tops 2.4 Trillion Miles in First Nine Months of 2016

Gains were shown in nearly every state, according to a FHWA report

The DOT’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) has released new data showing that U.S. driving reached over 2.4 trillion miles in the first nine months of 2016. This extends a series of monthly consecutive gains that started in April 2014.

The data was published in the FHWA’s “Traffic Volume Trends” report, according to a news release. 265.5 billion miles were driven in September of this year, an increase of 2.4 percent from the previous September. The DOT says this data highlights the importance of the FAST Act.

The largest percentage of growth was seen on the West coast at 5.5 percent.
