One Firefighter Fatality in Dubai Hard Landing

The airline Emirates confirmed in a statement that one of its commercial jets, a Boeing 777 with 282 passengers and 18 crew members on board, made an emergency landing Aug. 3 at Dubai International Airport. "We can confirm that there are no fatalities among our passengers and crew," the statement says. However, multiple news agencies report that one firefighter who responded to the burning plane died during the response.
This was flight EK521 traveling from Trivandrum International Airport in Thiruvananthapuram, India, to Dubai and the plane was scheduled to land at 12:50 p.m. local time at Dubai International Airport.

"Our thoughts are with everyone involved," His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Emirates' chairman and chief executive, says in a video posted on the airline's website.
Boeing's statement says: "Boeing is aware of the Emirates Airline Flight EK521 accident in Dubai. We are thankful all aboard were evacuated safely. A Boeing technical team is standing by to launch in support of the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board. In accordance with the international protocol governing aviation accident investigations, all inquiries about the investigation must be directed to the United Arab Emirates General Civil Aviation Authority."
