FAA Proposes Penalty Against Amazon for Violating Hazmat Regulations
The agency alleges Amazon did not properly package and mark the package, given the contents.
The Federal Aviation Administration has proposed a $350,000 penalty against Amazon and Amazon.com for violating hazardous materials regulations.
According to the agency, Amazon shipped a package of corrosive drain cleaner by air and did not properly package the product, leading to nine employees reporting a burning sensation after handling the package. The packaged was also not paired with a Declaration for Dangerous Goods and was not properly labeled to communicate what was inside. Employees who handled the package also did not know how to respond to the incident due to a lack of emergency response information included with the package.
Amazon has violated the hazmat regulations 24 times from February 2013 to September 2015, according to the agency.
