AIHA Begins Partnership with South African IH Organization

AIHA announced it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding for technical cooperation with the Southern African Institute for Occupational Hygiene.

AIHA announced in a news release that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Southern African Institute for Occupational Hygiene (SAIOH) for a cooperative partnership. SAIOH is the professional registration body for occupational hygiene in South Africa.

The partnership is for technical cooperation in areas such as the exchange of scientific information and publications and the identification of opportunities for transferring and promoting knowledge and findings in the field of occupational health and safety. The two organizations will work together to identify industrial hygiene initiatives that "may present opportunities for joint collaboration such as training courses, seminars, and conferences where workplace safety and health are proactively addressed," according to AIHA.

SAIOH has about 800 members. It was created in 2000 through the merger of the Occupational Hygiene Association of South Africa and the Institute of Occupational Hygienists of South Africa. The SAIOH Professionals Certification Board registers candidates if they meet the necessary certification criteria. The three accredited occupational hygiene designations recognized by SAQA are:

  • Occupational Hygiene Assistant (OHA)
  • Occupational Hygiene Technologist (OHT)
  • Occupational Hygienist (OH)
