Jubilee Party Starts a New A+A Tradition

On the occasion of the 30th A+A trade fair, 60 years after the first A+A took place in 1954, the organizer held a party Oct. 28 to recognize the show's history and accomplishments

DUSSELDORF -- One of the highlights of day two of the A+A 2015 Safety, Security and Health at Work trade fair was the Jubilee Party held the evening of Oct. 28. Starting at 6 p.m. when the expo halls closed for the day, Messe Dusseldorf GmbH brought exhibitors and other invited guests, about 1,000 people in all, to a section of Hall 11 for a buffet dinner and a video walking them through 60 years of safety progress in Germany and around the world.

A new award named SMG -- Safety Made in Germany -- was announced at the event, and four were presented. The first honored the longstanding safety R+D partnership involving universities, a fire safety institute, and other German partners that has resulted in many safety breakthroughs.

Also receiving SMG award trophies were Friedrich Seiz GmbH (www.seiz.de) for developing the first textile firefighters' glove; Ellinger Safety Training & Consulting Co.; and Messe Dusseldorf GmbH itself. Joachim Schafer, managing director of the Messe Dusseldorf division responsible for A+A, and Birgit Horn, A+A director this year and since 2009, accepted the award.
