OSHA Slams El Paso Employer

The investigation was done as part of OSHA's National Emphasis Program on Amputations. OSHA issued 36 safety citations after a previous inspection in December 2014.

Reporting that the company had "a history of safety violations dating back 15 years," OSHA on July 13 announced it has cited D&D Manufacturing of El Paso and proposed $321,750 in fines against the metal stamping company. The agency issued 13 safety and health citations to D&D Manufacturing Inc. the same day after a recent inspection prompted by a formal complaint; OSHA's news release said inspectors identified 13 safety and health citations "for exposing workers to amputations and other serious injuries from unsafe machinery, including a violation for ignoring the danger of allowing employees to work with a defective 500-pound metal press that the company knew had repeatedly dropped without warning."

The investigation was done as part of OSHA's National Emphasis Program on Amputations. OSHA issued 36 safety citations after a previous inspection in December 2014. "D&D is aware of the dangers at its production facility but has done nothing to correct them. An employee could have been seriously injured," said Diego Alvarado Jr., OSHA's area director in El Paso. "There is no reason or excuse for a company to ignore basic safety requirements."

After the more recent inspection, OSHA cited the company for four willful, one repeat, six serious. and two other violations, some of them involving vision and hearing PPE, as well as failing to have all exit signs illuminated.

D&D Manufacturing's headquarters are Bolingbrook, Ill., according to OSHA's release.
