World Steel Association Recognizes Second Steel Safety Day

The initiative encourages companies to participate in safety audits.

The steel industry marked the second Steel Safety Day on April 28, 2015. It is an initiative that encourages steel companies around the world to participate in industry-wide safety audits on the five most common causes of injury in the steel industry.

According to a news release, many steel producers and related organizations have proactively participated in the World Steel Association's safety initiatives, sharing information and guidelines on safety practices and reinforcing the importance of a safe working environment.

Commenting on this year's safety audits, Edwin Basson, director general of WSA, said, "We are very pleased with the high level of support and engagement from the industry worldwide on this crucial event. The safety and health of our people is our core value. This safety initiative is a continuous process for improvement and we plan to repeat it every year with the goal of zero incidents."
