Texas DPS Wins 'Fittest Agency' Crown

DPS also won the large-agency category award in 2014.

The Texas Department of Public Safety has been named the "Fittest State Agency" in the large agency category (more than 5,000 full-time employees) as part of the 2015 Get Fit Texas State Agency Challenge. The annual Get Fit Texas program was created to promote exercise by state employees using an agency-to-agency competition. DPS also won the award in 2014.

"Physical fitness is a vital part of a healthy lifestyle, and the department works to encourage all employees to incorporate physical activity into their daily routines," said DPS Director Steven McCraw. "Again, we were pleased to see so many employees participate in the Get Fit Texas challenge, and we are especially proud of this award and their accomplishments in 2015."

As part of the program, participants are challenged to be physically active for at least 150 minutes per week for at least six of the 10 weeks of the challenge, which ran from Jan. 12 to March 20. To win the fittest agency award, a department must have the highest percentage of employees completing the program. DPS won the large agency category with a 15.8 percent employee participation rate.
