The commission is accepting applications for Leaders across Borders only through Feb. 13.

Border Health Commission Taking Applications for 2016 Leadership Academy

Applicants must be health professionals with five years of experience working in public health, health-related fields, or community settings within the U.S.-Mexico border region, and there are additional requirements.

The United States-Mexico Border Health Commission is currently accepting applications from health leaders who want to attend its 2016 Leaders across Borders academy. Applications are being accepted only through Feb. 13, Arizona Department of Health Services Director Will Humble wrote in a Feb. 6 blog post.

The academy was created to build bi-national leadership capacity of public health, health care, and other community sectors to improve the health of communities in the U.S.-Mexico border region, Humble explained. He wrote that applicants must: 1) have at least five years' experience working in the U.S.-Mexico border region; 2) be committed to working with vulnerable populations and promoting health equity, eliminating health disparities, and increasing quality of life within the U.S.-Mexico border region; and 3) want to enhance their leadership and health diplomacy skills, professional networks, and understanding of binational public health assets, challenges, and systems as a means to identify solutions.

Academy participants also should currently work in a leadership role and be proficient in English and Spanish.
