The American Heart Association, HHS, and other organizations will use the hashtag #GoRed to encourage greater awareness of heart disease as the leading cause of death for American women.

Fighting the Leading Killer of U.S. Women

The American Heart Association, the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, and many other groups are raising awareness in the fight against heart disease in women by celebrating National Wear Red Day® on Friday, Feb. 6.

This Friday, Feb. 6, is National Wear Red Day®, which is sponsored by the American Heart Association to raise awareness in the fight against heart disease in women. The National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and other groups also are marking the day; National Wear Red Day® is a registered trademark of HHS and the American Heart Association.

Check the hashtag #GoRed for tweets by AHA and others and information about activities leading up to the day.

Heart disease is the #1 killer of women in the United States. AHA and the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute joined forces in 2003 against a disease that was claiming the lives of nearly 500,000 American women each year – a disease women weren't paying attention to, they note, and also a disease many still believe affects more men than women. It's held on the first Friday in February every year to raise awareness.

NHLBI offers an online toolkit with information and ideas to help celebrate National Wear Red Day® 2015, including free promotional materials.
