Annatto Spice Recalled for Possible Salmonella

Miravelle has recalled annatto spice following FDA testing.

Miravelle Foods has recalled its Achiote Molido ground annatto for possible salmonella contamination, according to an FDA news release. The company recalled the 0.75 ounce packages after the FDA completed product testing.

The product was distributed in California, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Nevada, Washington, and Oregon. So far, no illnesses have been reported, but Miravelle Foods will continue its investigation into the source of the problem and suspend all spice production. The product—which comes in a clear plastic package—was marked with #0015 and #0018 on top of the UPC number, which is 712810005020. Customers who purchased the product can return it for a full refund.
