EPA Orders Company to Halt Sale of Plastic Containers that Contain Nano Silver
The agency ordered Pathway Investment Corp to stop selling plastic food storage containers that contain a nano silver pesticide.
The Environmental Protection Agency has ordered New Jersey-based Pathway Investment Corp. to stop the sale of plastic food storage containers that have not been tested or registered with the EPA and contain nano silver as an active ingredient, which is in violation of federal pesticides law.
According to a press release from EPA, "The company's Kinetic Go Green Premium Food Storage Containers and Kinetic Smartwist Series Containers both contain nano silver as an active ingredient, and the company markets other products as containing nano silver, which the company claims helps reduce the growth of mold, fungus and bacteria. Such claims can only be made on products that have been properly tested and are registered with the EPA."
Federal law requires all products that contain an unregistered pesticide that claims to kill or repel bacteria be registered with the EPA prior to sale. Pathway failed to register its food storage containers with the EPA. In addition, EPA has issued a warning to several major retailers (including Amazon, Sears, and Wal-Mart) that were selling Kinetic Food Storage Containers online.
