Manufacturer Cited for Exposing Workers to Hexavalent Chromium
Great Dane Limited Partnership is cited by OSHA for repeat violations.
OSHA has cited Great Dane Limited Partnership, a truck trailer manufacturer, for allegedly exposing workers to hexavalent chromium at its Danville, Pa., facility. The company has received two repeat violations and faces $30,000 in proposed fines; OSHA completed an inspection in 2013 as part of its Hexavalent Chromium National Emphasis program.
Exposure to the chemical can pose a serious risk to workers because the chemical can cause cancer and problems in the kidneys, liver, skin, eyes, and respiratory system. The follow-up inspection found the company had exposed a welder to more than 4.6 times the permissible exposure limit to hexavalent chromium and failed to implement feasible engineering controls and work practices to reduce employee exposure to the chemical, according to OSHA.
The agency reported the company was cited for a similar violation during a previous investigation.
