NTSB to Offer March Safety Courses

The courses will cover interviewing, transportation disaster response, aircraft accident investigation, and more.

The National Transportation Safety Board will offer three safety courses this month. Two of the courses will be investigative, while one will be focused on family assistance. All three courses will be held at the agency's training center in Ashburn, Va.

The courses will cover interviewing, transportation disaster response, aircraft accident investigation, and more:

  • Cognitive interviewing, March 19-20. This two-day course provides the knowledge and skills needed to conduct interviews of witnesses to and participants in traffic accidents. According to NTSB, the first day will emphasize the cognitive interviewing technique to maximize the amount and quality of information obtained during investigative interviews, while the second day will focus on refining the CI techniques through discussion, demonstrations, and exercises.
  • The Transportation Disaster Response: Family Assistance, March 25-27. This course was designed for commercial transportation officials, representatives of federal agencies, and staffers of non-governmental relief organizations. The course will help them understand how organizations involved in accident response can most effectively support family assistance efforts.
  • Aircraft Accident Investigation, March 31-April 11. This longer course gives participants a detailed overview of the procedures and methods required for investigating an aircraft accident. Participants learn the procedures and methods through recent examples from NTSB investigations.
