The American Industrial Hygiene Association announced its bid to bring the conference to the nation's capital in October 2018 has succeeded.

The American Industrial Hygiene Association announced its successful bid will bring the International Occupational Hygiene Association's 2018 Scientific Conference to Washington, D.C. The conference and exhibition will take place in October 2018, with expected attendance of about 1,000 occupational hygiene professionals from around the world.

"AIHA and IOHA have been partners since the beginning of IOHA over 25 years ago. This is the first time IOHA will be held in the United States," said AIHA President Barbara J. Dawson, CIH, CSP. "It is an honor for us to host this conference, as many of our members practice industrial hygiene globally and will gain from international perspective."

The American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists (ACGIH) and the American Board of Industrial Hygiene have pledged their support to the meeting. Both AIHA and ACGIH are among the 29 IOHA member organizations from 27 countries; they represent in total more than 20,000 occupational hygienists.

"AIHA has the passion, determination, volunteer leadership, staff leadership, strong infrastructure, and a 75-year track record of significant success in developing and managing conferences," said Cathy Cole, CIH, CSP, a past president of AIHA who is AIHA's representative to IOHA. "We are committed to making IOHA 2018 the best conference it can be, with input and ideas from the global industrial hygiene community."
