Portland Hosting Pulp and Paper Safety Conference Next Month

The Dec. 3-6 event features a keynote speech by Georgia Pacific's CEO and workshops on combustible dust, lockout/tagout, and more.

The Occupational Safety and Health Division (Oregon OSHA) and partner organizations will highlight solutions for common hazards during the Western Pulp, Paper, and Forest Products Safety and Health Conference, which will take place Dec. 3-6 at the Jantzen Beach Red Lion Hotel in Portland, Ore. Employees, managers, and contractors in the Northwest pulp and paper industry can attend to learn more about safety and health best practices.

"This year, we've added safety topics to include the forest products industry," said Sharell Lien, conference coordinator. "Machinery found in both pulp and paper facilities and sawmills will allow workers in each industry to directly apply what they learn."

The conference keynote speaker is Georgia Pacific CEO and President Jim Hannan, who will present "Making Safety a Value" on Dec. 3. Workshops and roundtable discussions will include:

  • Combustible dust
  • Near-miss best practices
  • Lockout/tagout and machine guarding
  • Employee involvement roundtable

The registration fee is $240 to attend all conference sessions. The fee for a single day is $80. For more information or to register, go to www.orosha.org/conferences.
