OSHA Fines Manufacturing Company Due to Amputation Hazards
Napoleon Springs Works faces nearly $150,000 in fines for exposing workers to amputation hazards
OSHA has issued $147,600 in fines to Napoleon Spring Works Inc., a garage door hardware manufacturer, according to a press release from OSHA’s website. The company—which employs around 250 employees nationwide—received 16 safety violations, including one at its Archbold, OH plant that exposed workers to amputation hazards.
The inspection that found the violations was prompted by complaints suggesting the facility had several safety hazards. The inspection was also prompted by OSHA’s national programs for powered industrial vehicles awareness and amputation awareness.
The violations included failure to guard the company’s mechanical power presses (willful violation), failure to inspect energy control procedures, failure to guard mechanical power presses and riveters, failure to train workers in lockout/tagout procedures, failure to train workers on the safe operation of presses and more.
