Cirque du Soleil Nevada, MGM Grand Cited in Performer's Fatal Fall
Nevada OSHA inspectors issued six citations against Cirque du Soleil and three against the hotel-casino because of Sarah Guillot-Guyard's death last July.
Nevada OSHA has issued citations against Cirque du Soleil Nevada and MGM Grand in connection with the death of an aerial performer in the former's "Ka" show in July 2013 both Las Vegas newspapers reported. Sarah Guillot-Guyard fell 94 feet to the floor when a wire rope broke as she was being pulled up a tilted platform during a battle scene.
The Las Vegas Sun's John Katsilometes and the Review Journal's Howard Stutz reported the investigation concluded the rope came out of a disk in the pulley housing, contacted a shear point, and was severed as the motor pulled her upward.
They reported both Cirque du Soleil and MGM Grand will appeal the citations.
