California OSHA cites Olivet International with 12 Citations

The citations for an unsafe workplace total more than $34,000 in fines

California OSHA has issued 12 citations against Olivet International, a Jurupa Valley distribution center, according to The Press-Enterprise. The violations were issued to the company, which primarily manufactures luggage items, on October 10.

The fines total more than $34,000 and include violations such as blocked fire exits, blocked aisles, merchandise stacked without proper support, no response plan for injuries that occur on the job, no treatment for heat-related illness, improper foot protection and more.

The inspection that found these violations occurred in May after several workers from Olivet used an advocacy group to ask the state agency to inspect the warehouse because they thought their supervisors were not taking the proper precautions.  After this, workers held a two-day strike in July and filed two unfair labor practice charges with the help of the Warehouse Workers United.

According to The Press-Enterprise, six of the 12 violations are serious and three (including protective footwear and lift trucks) contain fines of $6,750.
