Getting Set for NSC Keynotes

Among the highlights are The Sept. 30 Executive Forum featuring the president of Firmenich Inc., which won the 2012 Campbell Award, and safety leaders from two other Campbell Institute charter member companies.

The 100-year-old National Safety Council has assembled a strong roster of keynotes for its annual conference next week at Chicago's McCormick Place. OSHA's Dr. David Michaels and NIOSH's Dr. John Howard are scheduled to join Paul O'Neill, former Treasury secretary and Alcoa CEO, for a "Future of Workplace Safety" session starting at 12:30 p.m. on Oct. 1, and that day's 8 a.m. "The Human Side of Injury Prevention" motivational keynote presentation features the popular duo of Dr. E. Scott Geller and Charlie Morecraft.

The Sept. 30 opening session will include remarks by Jeffrey Woodbury, the incoming chairman of the council's board of directors. Woodbury, ExxonMobil Corp.'s vice president for Safety, Security, Health and Environment, was elected to the NSC board two years ago. ExxonMobil received the council's 2013 Green Cross for Safety award.

The Sept. 30 Executive Forum beginning at 10:30 a.m. will feature David Shipman, president of Firmenich Inc., which won the 2012 Campbell Award, along with Mark Vergnano, executive vice president of DuPont Sustainable Solutions, and David Eherts, Ph.D., CIH, vice president and chief safety officer at Sikorsky Aircraft Corp. DuPont and United Technologies, the parent company of Sikorsky, are charter members of The Campbell Institute, an NSC project launched in 2003.

Dale Lesinski, vice president of DiVal Safety Equipment, will present the conference's Leadership Keynote, "Safe 4 the Right Reasons," starting at 8 a.m. Oct. 2.
