OSHA Awards $10.1 Million in Susan Harwood Safety and Health Training Grants

The money was awarded to over 70 different nonprofit organizations and community groups

According to an article from Environmental-Expert.com, OSHA granted $10.1 million through the Susan Harwood Training Grant Program earlier this week. The money will be given to 70 nonprofit organizations, community and faith-based organizations, employer associations, labor unions, labor and management associations, colleges and universities.

The program gives one-year grants that support education and training programs that will help workers and employees understand best safety and health practices, while also creating injury prevention programs. Employees will learn about occupational health and safety through in-person training and educational programs, while employers will receive assistance in creating training materials.

Topics that will be covered include agricultural safety, fall protection, grain handling operations, hair and salon hazards, ergonomic hazards, chemical HazCom, workplace violence and more. Many of the companies benefitting from the grants are small businesses in industries with high fatality/injury rates or in industries with limited English-speaking or young employees.
