SAMHSA Releasing 2012 Survey This Week

Participants in the Sept. 4 news conference will include Pamela S. Hyde, SAMHSA administrator; Gil Kerlikowske, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy; and Dr. H. Westley Clark, director of SAMHSA's Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.

Leaders of the federal offices most concerned about Americans' use of illegal drugs, as well as the misuse of prescription medications, will release the results of the 2012 National Survey on Drug Use and Health on Sept. 4, at a news conference hosted by the Substance Abuse and Services Administration. This annual survey is the largest of its kind and is the government's main vehicle for determining how many people are using illegal drugs, alcohol, and tobacco and how many are misusing pharmaceuticals.

Participants in the news conference will include Pamela S. Hyde, SAMHSA administrator; Gil Kerlikowske, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy; and Dr. H. Westley Clark, director of SAMHSA's Center for Substance Abuse Treatment.

The release kicks off the 24th annual National Recovery Month observance, which celebrates individuals who have achieved long-term recovery from mental and substance use disorders.
