Maryland Company Cited for Workplace Violence Hazards after Stabbing
The employee was fatally stabbed last December.
OSHA has cited Maryland's Integra Health Management for workplace violence hazards following the fatal stabbing of an employee last December by a patient. While the incident occurred at the patient’s home and not the workplace, it was during a required face-to-face hospitalization risk assessment.
"This incident could have been prevented if the employer had a comprehensive, written, workplace violence prevention program to address hazards and assist employees when they raise concerns about their safety," said Teresa Harrison, OSHA's acting regional administrator for the Southeast, in a statement on OSHA's website.
The patient had a history of violence and stabbed the employee multiple times. Prior to the incident, the employee raised concerns about the patient.
The company, which conducts mental and physical health assessments, received a citation for exposing the employee to incidents of violent behavior that resulted in death
