National Safety Month Materials Available

The theme of the June activities is "Safety Starts with Me."

The 2013 National Safety Month theme is The theme of this June's National Safety Month is "Safety Starts with Me," said by the National Safety Council to have been inspired by the pillar of Leadership and Employee Engagement from the Journey to Safety Excellence. "Successful organizations engage everyone in safety and create a culture where people feel a person responsibility not only for their own safety, but for that of their coworkers, family and friends. While leadership from the top is important, creating a culture where there is a sense of ownership of safety by all makes everyone in the organization a safety leader," NSC's description says.

Some materials will be available as free downloads to anyone, while some are reserved for NSC members. Each week in June has a theme:

  • Week 1: Preventing Slips, Trips and Falls
  • Week 2: Employee Wellness
  • Week 3: Emergency Preparedness
  • Week 4: Ergonomics

The month also is focused on two more topics, summer safety and driving safety.

Materials free to the public include a National Safety Month poster in English and Spanish, tip sheets, a crossword puzzle, and a 100 Years of Safety trivia game. Materials exclusive for NSC members include a planner’s guide, posters, five-minute safety talks in English and Spanish, a customizable National Safety Month participant certificate, and webinars.
