LA Judge Orders Digital Billboards Unplugged

The judge ordered Clear Channel Outdoor and CBS Outdoor to darken 77 of them by 5 p.m. April 15, The Los Angeles Times reported.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Terry Green ordered two outdoor advertising goliaths to unplug 77 digital billboards by 5 p.m. local time April 15, The Los Angeles Times’ David Zahniser reported. The battle over billboards has been joined for years, with residents complaining the billboards flood their apartments and homes with unwelcome light during night hours.

The judge gave Clear Channel Outdoor and CBS Outdoor three days to unplug the billboards, according to Zahniser's news story. It quoted Dennis Hathaway, president of the Coalition to Ban Billboard Blight and a neighbor of one of the affected billboards in Venice, Calif., as saying, "This is what we've been waiting for now for six years. I’m going to be out there personally at 5 o’clock [April 15] to watch it go dark."

A recent study found digital billboards can distract drivers much more than standard billboards.
