Georgia Facility Exposed Workers to Hexavalent Chromium
Employees and their food were exposed to the harmful chemical, a repeat violation for the company.
Aerospace Defense Coatings of Georgia has received $83,160 in fines for two repeat violations and one willful violation relating to employee exposure to the chemical hexavalent chromium. The investigation was a follow-up investigation based on violations that OSHA found at the Macon, Ga. facility in 2010.
The willful violation, a fine worth $61,600, involved failing to provide change rooms for workers in contact with hexavalent chromium.
The two repeat violations that were worth $21,560 included exposure to airborne hexavalent chromium and having food present with hexavalent chromium.
"Aerospace Defense Coatings of Georgia was previously cited for the same violations and has failed to take action to protect workers from the hazards associated with hexavalent chromium exposure," said Nadira Janack, assistant area director of OSHA's Atlanta-East Area Office, in a statement on the OSHA website. "Management needs to take immediate action to eliminate these hazards from the workplace."
