NHTSA App Provides Real-Time Safety Information

The new app provides information on recalls and safety news.

A new app might be your key to safer travel. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has released an app for iPhones that provides safety information generated on SaferCar.gov.

This app will allow drivers to search vehicle ratings, keep up-to-date on vehicle recalls, file safety complaints, and subscribe to automatic notices about those recalls.

"Safety is our highest priority, and we're always working to find new and better ways for people to access SaferCar, one of the most popular programs on our website," said U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, on the NHTSA website. "This app takes advantage of the latest technology to ensure that consumers have the real-time information they need to buy safe, drive safe and stay safe."

The SaferCar app provides real-time access to important information. In addition to information and notifications about recalls, this app is helpful for parents with the inclusion of child seat installation instruction. There are also directions to the nearest car seat inspection station to ensure that the seats are properly installed.

The app is available now and can be downloaded from the Apple iTunes Store for free.
