OSHA and Steel Groups Renew Alliance to Protect Workers
Since, 2008, OSHA and two Pennsylvania steel worker groups have provided safety training and resources.
The Steel Erectors Association of Metropolitan Philadelphia and Vicinity Inc. and the Iron Workers Union No. 401 have renewed their alliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Administration, continuing to work together to promote safety for steel erection workers in the Philadelphia area. With OSHA’s alliance partners, training materials and resources will be provided to encourage work place safety, and specifically fall prevention.
Since 2008, this partnership between OSHA, The Steel Erectors Association, and the Iron Workers Union has provided training materials to more than 1,300 workers in the Philadelphia area, and will continue to do so.
"This alliance renewal reaffirms our commitment to ensure that steel erection industry workers across the greater Philadelphia area have a safe and healthy workplace," said Domenick Salvatore, director of OSHA's Philadelphia Area Office, who represented the agency at the recent signing ceremony at 401 Union Hall in Philadelphia. "We will continue identifying methods to prevent and reduce hazards associated with the steel industry, particularly fall and struck-by hazards."
This venture is part of OSHA’s alliance program that provides specialized trade, professional, and community groups alike with workplace health and safety information and training.
More information on the alliance program can be found on the OSHA website.
