Pipe Marking Webinar Offered Next Week

Graphic Products Inc. Project Manager Jim Bocci will discuss best practices and the ANSI/ASME A13.1 standard, which is recommended for identifying most piping systems.

A free March 13 webinar titled "Pipe Marking...Visual Identification Best Practices" will give facility managers a short course on the ANSI/ASME A13.1 standard, which is recommended for identifying most piping systems. Project Manager Jim Bocci of Portland, Ore.-based Graphic Products Inc. will discuss the standard and will explain best practices in the webinar, which begins at 10 a.m. Pacific time.

For managers of many types of facilities, such as wastewater treatment plants and medical facilities, "it's critical to know where the water, nitrogen, hydrogen and other substances are flowing -- for upgrades, maintenance, inspections and emergency response. Applying color-coded labels simplifies pipe and shut-off valve identification, especially when it needs to be done in a hurry," according to the company. "But pipe installation and marking can be a complicated process. If pipes are mislabeled for either direction or contents, results could be disastrous."

Webinar attendees will learn how the standard relates to OSHA requirements, as well as:

  • The protocol for label color coding, text style, text size, and location of pipe labels
  • Guidelines on creating pipe marking for ammonia refrigerant lines and components
  • Resources and products for implementing or redoing a pipe marking project
