Missouri, Vermont VPP Sites Closing Soon
The Energizer Holdings Inc. battery manufacturing plant in Maryville, Mo., was honored by OSHA again as a Star SB site in December 2012.
The Kansas City Business Journal reports the closing of Energizer Holdings Inc. battery manufacturing plant in Maryville, Mo., will begin closing March 25 and by Nov. 30, all 290 workers there will be out of a job.
The plant is one of two OSHA-recognized Star Small Business sites that Energizer Holdings is closing -- the other is located in St. Albans, Vt., and will close in September, putting about 165 people out of work -- according to the restructuring plan it announced on Nov. 8, 2012. OSHA re-approved the Maryville plant's Star SB status in December 2012.
The reorganization plan said the Star SB sites the company operates in Asheboro, N.C., a battery manufacturing facility and a packaging facility, will be streamlined. A battery packaging facility in Malaysia also will be closed, a Canadian packaging facility will be streamlined, and a Chinese lights manufacturing facility will be streamlined, according to the plan.
Energizer Holdings is based in St. Louis, Mo. Its plan is intended to produce annual pre-tax cost savings of about $200 million.
