Michaels, Howard Speaking at Oil & Gas Safety Conference

More than 1,400 industry professionals are expected to attend the sold-out conference taking place at a downtown Dallas hotel Dec. 4-5.

The top officials of OSHA, NIOSH, and the National Safety Council (NSC) are among the speakers scheduled to make presentations at the 2012 OSHA Oil & Gas Safety Conference, which is taking place Dec. 4-5 at the Sheraton Downtown Dallas hotel. This is the third in a biennial conference series organized by the University of Texas at Arlington Region VI OSHA Education Center, and it boasts more than 120 exhibitors and 77 breakout sessions on topics ranging from behavior-based safety to drilling safety. A panel discussion on Dec. 5 is focused on strategies for preventing struck by/caught in or between injuries.

Scheduled speakers include OSHA chief Dr. David Michaels; NIOSH Director Dr. John Howard; NSC President and CEO Janet Froetscher; Dean Wingo, assistant regional administrator for cooperative and state programs at OSHA's Dallas Region VI regional office and conference OSHA chair; Jason Voegeli of Devon Energy, the conference industry chair; Jeffrey J. Woodbury, vice president of safety, security, health, and environment for ExxonMobil Corporation; and James Thatcher, advisor for safety, health, training, environmental, and security programs for EnCana Oil and Gas Company.

In memory of one of the conference's founders a former chair, Linda Berryman, five Linda Berryman Memorial Scholarships will be presented to individuals seeking safety education for jobs in the oil & gas industry. John Hermanson, regional administrator for the U.S. Department of Labor's Dallas Region, will present the OSHA Regional Administrator's Award.
