Many Canadian Workers Concerned About Mental Health

Moreover, 20 percent of people said in the survey they are concerned for their physical safety in the workplace.

A new study shows that many Canadian employees are concerned for the state of psychological health and safety in the workplace.

Moreover, 20 percent of people said they are are concerned for their physical safety in the workplace.

Seven in 10 Canadian workers expressed a level of concern for mental health, according to the report from Ipsos Reid, commissioned by the Great-West Life Centre for Mental Health in the Workplace. While any level of concern for mental health is alarming, the number of people significantly worried about this topic has declined.

"The fact that 14 percent of respondents feel that their psychological health and safety is at risk in the workplace is a significant concern," says Mike Schwartz, senior vice-president of Group Benefits for Great-West Life and cxecutive director of the centre. "However, the number has declined from 20 percent three years ago, which suggests that some employers are successfully taking steps to address these issues. More employers need to know that resources are available to help them address these issues and while it does take time and effort, it need not be costly."
