80,000 USB Wall Chargers Recalled
Atomi has voluntarily recalled the Sharper Image USB chargers because they can overheat and smoke, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers, CPSC announced Oct. 10.
Atomi, a company located in New York City, has voluntarily recalled about 80,000 Sharper Image USB wall chargers because they can overheat and smoke, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Oct. 10. Its online announcement said Atomi has received 13 reports of overheating chargers but no injuries have been reported so far.
The recall involves Sharper Image USB wall chargers with model numbers TSI202 and TSI260. They're used to recharge electronic devices, including MP3 players, through a USB connection. The chargers are black plastic and are about 2.5 inches high by 1.5 inches wide. "The Sharper Image" is printed on the top, and the model number is printed on the bottom of the device.
They were sold at Burlington Coat Factory, Tuesday Morning, and TJ Maxx stores and on various websites from October 2011 through September 2012 for between $8 and $13, according to the notice, which said the chargers were manufactured in China.
Consumers should immediately stop using these chargers and should contact Atomi by phone (800-790-1440, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EDT Monday through Friday) or email ([email protected]) for instructions on returning as charger for a full refund.
