Sunland Recall Expands
The recall has been expanded to all products manufactured at its Peanut Butter Plant after March 1, 2010.
Sunland, Inc. has voluntarily expanded its recall of products manufactured in its Peanut Butter Plant because the products have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. On Oct. 4, the recall was expanded to include all products manufactured there after March 1, 2010 -- 139 products in all added to the initial recall of 101 products manufactured between May 1, 2012 and Sept. 24, 2012.
FDA posted the news, reporting that the expanded recall includes 49 products that are currently within the manufacturer;s recommended shelf-life, meaning their "best if used by" dates have not expired.
Peanut butter, almond butter, cashew butter, tahini products, and roasted blanched peanut products already were recalled, and new categories added to the list are several varieties of flavored butters and spreads, including Thai ginger butter, chocolate butter, and banana butter.
FDA reported none of the additional products has been associated with any reported illness so far; the initial recall followed a Sept. 22, 2012, report by CDC and FDA that from June 11 to Sept. 2, 29 people reported Salmonella Bredeney PFGE matching illnesses in approximately 18 states. FDA and the company are continuing their investigation.
