Company Sold Following OSHA Citations

Miller Compressing Co. was sold following the receipt of OSHA violations. Alter Trading Corp. purchased the company. The St. Louis-based business is one of the nation's leading scrap metal processors.
Miller Compressing was fined after maintenance on a shredder was improperly performed. The Wisconsin company received citations for two willful violations from OSHA. With citations amounting to $70,000, employees of Miller Compressing Co. failed to isolate the power source prior to working on the industrial-sized shredder.
The company in Milwaukee failed to lock out the electrical power source for the 7,000 horsepower shredder. Workers are supposed to do so before maintenance in order to prevent the machine from spontaneously coming on and workers being injured.
Miller Compressing Co. has 15 days to respond to the citations, either with payment or by contesting them before the independent Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission.
