Contractor Monitoring Safety at Too Many Sites When Accident Killed Worker
A construction superintendent at a Brooklyn site was monitoring more than legal limit of sites when one worker was killed and another injured.
One worker was killed and another seriously injured in an accident at a Brooklyn construction site on Monday. It has since been discovered that the contractor involved was overseeing job safety at 14 different construction sites simultaneously - four more than the city allows.
The top floor of the condominiums being constructed collapsed under the two workers.
Construction superintendents are not permitted to oversee more than ten sites unless special permission is received. In this case, it was not.
It is not clear if the superintendent was present at the time of the accident.
In the past year, the city of Brooklyn has shut down four of the other construction sites that this individual was overseeing.
